3D Scanning + Sheet Metal Bending

I had a little challenge on my hands: a side panel was missing from my father’s Bobcat X325.

With the help of the Metro Y scanner, I was able to scan the area and use that as a base to recreate the panel with much better accuracy. I then worked on the model in Revo Design and finished everything in Fusion 360, ready for laser cutting and bending.

I also tried to keep it as close as possible to the original, using a photo I found online as a reference (last photo).

Could it have been done by measuring everything with a tape measure? Sure. But it wouldn’t be the same.

It’s in projects like this that you really understand the value of a 3D scanner: it saves time, helps capture tricky shapes, and makes it much easier to recreate parts that are hard to find.
